Strategic trading against retail investors with loss - aversion
نویسنده
چکیده
In this paper, we study a model incorporating the retail trader's reluctance to sell into losses. We show that in this setup the informed trader always buys the asset when he receives a favorable signal. However, when the informed trader receives an unfavorable signal, he may not always sell the asset if the signal is moderately bad and the retail trader is reluctant to realize losses. Hence the good news travels faster than the bad news and the asset price exhibits steady climbs with sharp and sudden drops. © 2006 Published by Elsevier Inc.

At the trading stage, investors are boundedly rational and their interpretation of prices injects noise into the price system, which serves as a source of endogenous noise trading. Compared to the standard rational expectations equilibrium, our setup features price momentum and yields higher return vo...

متن کاملThe Beauty Contest and Short-Term Trading∗
Short-termism need not breed informational price inefficiency even when generating Beauty Contests. We demonstrate this claim in a two-period market with persistent liquidity trading and risk-averse, privately informed, short-term investors and find that prices reflect average expectations about fundamentals and liquidity trading. Informed investors engage in “retrospective” learning to reasses...

In this paper, I show that persistent pricing anomalies are consistent with a market that includes ambiguity averse investors. In particular, I show that ambiguity averse investors may prefer to trade based on aggregate signals that reduce ambiguity at the cost of a loss in information. Because the aggregate signals preferred by ambiguity averse investors are not sufficient statistics for the c...
